NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 20, 2002

Week-Long Christmas Tree Collection Begins January 6, 2003

Curbside tree pick-up scheduled

(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Public Works(DPW) will conduct its special curbside holiday tree pick-up, for one week only, from January 6 – 10, 2003. Trees and wreaths should be placed in front of homes by Sunday, January 5. Any trees not set out for collection that week should be placed with residents’ trash on the regularly scheduled collection day.

Residential leaf vacuuming will continue as scheduled in all wards through January 12, 2003. Most households have already received a leaf collection brochure by mail. The collection schedule can also be accessed online by visiting DPW’s Web site at http://dpw.dc.gov/info/information.shtml.

Residents are asked to rake leaves into piles in the curbside tree box space in front of their property in order to facilitate removal by DPW crews operating the large leaf vacuums. Leaves from the rear of the property may still be bagged and placed with trash and recyclables. Trash collection crews will continue to remove seven bags at a time from each property until all bagged leaves are collected.
