NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 07, 2003 Isabel Debris Will Be Picked Up Curbside October 6 - 24 (Washington, DC) As the clean-up following Hurricane Isabel enters its third week, a debris removal contractor, Waste Management/Storm Reconstruction Services (SRS) Inc., has been selected to remove logs, limbs and trunks from public space; pick up storm debris set out by residents; haul the debris to the waste reduction operation at 5 Southern Avenue, SW, and grind the debris into wood chips. This will allow DPW and DDOT to return to normal operations. Crews will be working in neighborhoods from October 6 - 24. Take advantage of this opportunity to clean up storm debris in your yard! Gather limbs and branches from your property and place them in the tree box space (between the sidewalk and the curb) for collection. The contractor will be collecting from the curbside only, not in the alleys. Debris should not to block fire hydrants or storm drains. Leaves, twigs and yard waste should be bagged and set out with the regular trash, not mixed in with the larger storm debris. Sanitation crews will pick up the bags over the next few weeks, as space in the packer trucks permits. If you don't want to wait for crews to get to your block, you can take storm debris to the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station at 4900 Bates Road, NE from 1 - 5 pm weekdays and from 8 am - 3 pm Saturdays. The transfer station will also be open to residents on two Sundays, October 12 and October 19 from 8 am - 3 pm.
