NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 1, 2004   Holiday Schedule for DPW Services   (Washington, DC) This year, Independence Day will be observed on Monday, July 5. DPW administrative offices will be closed and most services will be suspended for the day.   There will be no trash and recycling collection; no street and alley cleaning; no sanitation enforcement; no nuisance abatement, towing or abandoned vehicle removal.  Additionally, there will be no parking enforcement, including meters, residential and rush hour lane restrictions. All services, parking rules and enforcement resume the following business day, Tuesday, July 6.   The Department of Public Works will, however, deploy trash collection and street sweeping equipment and personnel to control litter and pedestrian trash during the holiday celebration across the District.   Once-weekly trash and recycling collection will “slide” one day for the remainder of the week, beginning Tuesday, July 6 (i.e., Friday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Saturday).    Neighborhoods that normally receive twice-weekly trash service will see their first collection slide one day, with normal collections for the remainder of the week.   For more information about holiday schedules for DPW services, visit the Holiday Services section of the DPW website.
