(Washington, DC) As the clean-up following recent wind and rainstorms continues, DPW and DDOT crews will be picking up large sections of tree trunks and limbs remaining on public space. Property owners are responsible for removing fallen trees originating on their own property.

 

To facilitate collection of smaller, storm-related debris from their property, residents are asked to bag small fragments, like yard waste, leaves and twigs. These bags may be set out at the regular point of trash collection. Carry or drag sizeable branches (1 to 4 inches in diameter) to the curb for collection. The branches should be cut down to four-foot lengths and tied together in bundles. Pile the bundles onto the curbside tree boxes. DPW will collect bundled and bagged tree debris in packer trucks during the course of weekly trash collection. Larger tree limbs, stumps and trunks from private property will not be collected.

 

Residents and business owners are asked to be patient, as the collection and removal of all of this bundled and bagged debris may take several weeks to complete. Residents should feel free to take any curbside logs and branches for use as firewood.

 

Residents who do not want to wait for collection may take moveable brush, branches, debris and other trash to the city's Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station at 4900 Bates Road, NE, from 1 to 5 pm weekdays and from 8 am to 3 pm Saturdays
