Early Snowfall Will Delay Leaf Collection Schedule by a Week in Some Areas

(Washington, DC) Early season snowfalls have forced the District to divert personnel and equipment to snow removal for the third time in recent days, pushing the leaf vacuuming schedule back by up to a week in some areas of the city.

Like other municipalities in the area, DC uses many of the same vehicles for both leaf collection and snow removal. In addition to the snow event itself, it takes approximately one day to mount – and later to remove – the plows and salt spreaders that turn dozens of light and heavy trucks into snow-fighting equipment.

DPW officials are working to minimize delays in collection. Leaf collection will resume as soon as possible following tomorrow’s forecasted storm.
