DPW Unveils New Website Feature

(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works (DPW) has added a new feature to its website, enabling residents to find timely information more easily.

“We think this enhancement makes our website more accessible and more interesting to use,” said DPW Director William O. Howland Jr.

Incorporating geographical information systems (GIS) data, the new online application provides a mapping system that shows website visitors the progress of leaf collection operations in any given District neighborhood.

To use the leaf progress tracking tool, enter a street address, view the schedule for leaf collection and access a detailed street map with a color-coded legend showing which streets have been cleared by the leaf vacs. The maps are updated after each day’s operations.

According to Howland, DPW has used GIS data for other routing purposes, but this is the first time the agency has incorporated this technology into an online tracking application. Find out more about leaf collection in the District.
