DPW Releases Trash Collection, Parking Enforcement Schedule for Memorial Day

(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that trash and recycling collections and parking enforcement (meters, residential and rush hour lane restrictions, and booting, towing or abandoned vehicle removal) will be suspended Monday, May 28, 2007 to observe Memorial Day. Collections will resume Tuesday, May 29, following the holiday schedule. Parking enforcement will resume also. Street and alley cleaning, graffiti removal or nuisance abatement will be suspended for Memorial Day and the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station will be closed.

Trash and recycling collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will “slide” to the next day; therefore, Monday’s collections will be made Tuesday, Tuesday’s collections will be made Wednesday, Wednesday’s collections will be made Thursday, Thursday’s collections will be made Friday and Friday’s collections will be made Saturday.

Twice-a-week collections also will “slide.”  Monday/Thursday collections will be made Tuesday/Friday and Tuesday/Friday collections will be made Wednesday/Saturday.

While DPW’s trash and recycling trucks are identical, trash and recycling materials are collected separately from one another. Please be sure to put your trash and recycling out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and remove your containers from public space by 8 pm on your collection day(s).

Residents with questions about the holiday schedule may call (202) 727-1000 for further information. Also, view the Slide Guide for holiday collections in English and Spanish.
